Jiang Rong Qiao's Bagua Zhang
姜氏八卦掌

Jakob Pang Isaksson started training Bagua Zhang 2005 and is now a representative for Jiang Shi Bagua Zhang 姜氏八卦掌 in Stockholm, Sweden. This style of Kung Fu comes from the well known master Jiang Rong Qiao 姜容樵 (1891-1974). The Jiangstyle of Bagua Zhang is part of the legacy of Mr Jiang's teacher Zhang Zhan Kui 张占魁 (1859-1940) who was known all over north China for his power and fighting abilities. Zhang Zhan Kui was a student of the famous Cheng Ting Hua, but since his style mixes elements of Xingyi Quan and Bagua Zhang together, the result is a style by its own known as 形意八卦掌 Xing Yi Bagua Zhang。

形意拳 Xingyi Quan is one of the three main Internal Martial Arts in China. It is known for its power and direct techniques. Zhang Zhan Kui was Kung Fu brother of Li Cunyi 李存义 (1847-1921) who was one of the representatives of Xingyi Quan at this time. As teachers of the same school, ideas and training methods were exchanged. In our training Xingyi Quan is not represented by the full system with 12 Animals, forms and partner forms, rather a more a basic training to complement the Bagua Zhang.

Jiang Rong Qiao created his own style of Bagua Zhang as far as forms and movements, even though he always said his Bagua Zhang came from his teacher. There is though a unique set of the Old Eight Palms and a more advanced set called 八卦腿 Bagua Tui that combines the 72 leg skills of Chinese Kung Fu with Bagua Zhang and the Mizong Quan that Jiang picked up while starting out his training as a kid.

Jakob Pang Isaksson is a student of  李建民 Li Jian Min who is a student of teacher and author 蔡海康 Cai Hai Kuang from Shanghai. Mr Cai was a direkt student of Jiang Rong Qiao as a little kid, and later grew up learning Bagua from his elder Kung Fu brothers with in the style. Among these was Jiang's famous student Sha Gozheng 沙国政 (1904-1992).

Right now the training is focused on research and bringing back the genuine skills and methods of original Bagua Zhang.
